30.

Today I am 30.

I don’t mind getting older.  In fact, I like it.  Ask me again when I turn 40, I might have a different answer, but today I’m good with it.

As a birthday present to myself, I made a pillow.

Made from a felted wool sweater that was so thick I thought my sewing machine would spit at me in protest.

Perfectly cozy.

Super Quick Pirate Eye Patch Tutorial

Did you know today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day?  Neither did I… until, through the wonders of Facebook, I was made aware of this holiday.  So what does a holiday like this require?  A super quick eye patch, of course!

When I realized it was International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I dug out some elastic and some felt.  They don’t match, but that doesn’t bother my boys at all [even though my need-to-match-self may have wanted to run out and buy some black felt....]

Cut the elastic to comfortably fit around your child’s head.  I had some softer [read: won't dig in to their skull] elastic that I snagged from a Pick Your Plum daily deal, so I used that.

Cut your felt in the shape of an eye patch.

Zig zag the felt onto the elastic.

Zig zag the ends of the elastic together.

Teach your three-year-old to say “Arrr, matey” while he eats his lunch.

Play peek-a-boo with your snot covered one-year-old, because really, what fun would an eye patch be if you didn’t do that?

Now, I’m off to do some plundering and…. whatever else is is that pirates might do. ;)

Rick Rack Owl Toy

I had the honor of testing a fabulous new toy pattern for Kate over at See Kate Sew.  She’s releasing her Rick Rack Owl Toy pattern for sale today.  I had so much fun making this one!

When I looked through my sewing supplies, I realized that I only have one kind of rick rack… apparently I don’t really use rick rack much!  The pink in the rick rack pretty much meant my owl was going to be a girly one.

I actually sewed this owl by hand while we were away this weekend.  There’s something so therapeutic about hand sewing.  And this was a great project for that – super quick.

“Take my picture with the owl, Mom!”

I clearly didn’t pay enough attention when I was cutting my fabric, though, and ended up with that big polka dot right in the middle of the owl’s face… woops!  But there will be more of these owls in our future.  I guess I found a reason to buy some more rick rack!

Mmmm Muffins!

I have one of the pickiest eaters ever. in. life. in my house.  Mealtime is one of my most frustrating parenting times of the day, when my one-year-old turns up his nose at all the veggies and real foods I’m offering and won’t eat anything but crackers.

So, when I come across a yummy recipe that is packed full of good-for-you goodness, I jump on it.  This recipe for Banana, Zucchini, and Summer Squash Muffins from Heather is oh so delicious and filled with real foods that my little man normally won’t touch.

My three-year-old, on the other hand, will eat just about anything.  He mixed all the veggies in and was so excited to eat these, he could barely wait the 30 minutes they were in the oven.

But they were well worth the wait – and get the picky eater stamp of approval!  He actually cried when I wouldn’t let him eat more than one at snack time.

Three cheers for healthy eating!  Visit Heather to get this yummy recipe.
